Flights Resume at Scotland's Busiest Airport Following Major Control Tower IT Issue

A technical fault at the airport's air traffic control meant no aircraft could arrive or depart from the facility.

Flight operations have restarted at Scotland's primary international airport following a significant technical issue at the control tower halted all operations.

Every arrival and departure were suspended due to an technical fault that arose around 08:30.

Several flyers were left waiting in aircraft on the tarmac during the disruption.

Flights Resume with Continued Disruption

Officials announced at 10:40 that flights had resumed, and expressed gratitude to passengers for their "understanding and cooperation".

Nonetheless, significant disruption are expected to continue throughout the day. Flights to London Gatwick, Bristol, Amsterdam and Frankfurt have been cancelled, with numerous other services subject to postponements.

An airport representative had previously estimated that dozens of flights could be impacted.

"Travelers are urged to contact their airlines for the latest information on their individual travel plans," the statement added.

Cause of the Chaos

Officials linked the operational halt to an technical fault with its control tower systems vendor.

Passengers continue to be advised to verify the schedule of their flight before heading to the airport as backlogs are cleared.
